Begin by using the 2” Background Brush to cover the entire canvas with a thin, even coat of Liquid White. Do not allow the Liquid White to dry before you begin.Using a 1” Landscape Brush and a very small amount of Alizarin Crimson, criss cross a pink glow in the lower right corner of the canvas. Finish the sky and water areas with a small amount of Phthalo Blue and Midnight Black on the 1” Brush.Use criss cross strokes to blend the colors in the sky together without over blending. Also, use horizontal strokes to blend and soften the water area.
Photo 2
Form the mountain using the knife and a dark mixture of Prussian Blue, Midnight Black, Van Dyke Brown and Alizarin Crimson. Blend the body of the mountain using the 1” Landscape Brush. Soften the base of the mountain using criss cross strokes to create a fog at the base.
Photo 3
Highlight the right of the mountain using a small roll of Titanium White on the knife. The color for the shadow side of the mountain is Titanium White, Phthalo Blue and small touch of the dark mountain base color. Tap the base of the mountain to form a mist and gently lift up using a clean 1” Brush.
Photo 4
Use the dark mountain base color plus a small amount of Titanium White on a chiseled Fan Brush to form the small background trees at the base of the mountain. Add a couple of more distinct evergreens using the corner of the Fan Brush. Pull down some color to create reflections in the water with a 1” brush. Add a water line using a very small roll of Titanium White and Liquid White on the knife.
Photo 5
Using the dark mountain base color form tall evergreen trees in the foreground with the Fan Brush. Use the same dark mixture to make push up brushes at the base of the trees. Scratch in a few sticks and twigs using the point of the knife.
Photo 6
Highlight the evergreens with Titanium White, Liquid White and a small touch of Phthalo Blue on the Fan Brush. Be careful to leave some dark areas in the trees. Highlight the push up brushes in the foreground using a clean 1” Landscape Brush loaded with Titanium White and Liquid White. Wipe the brush off if it picks up the dark color as you highlight and reload with fresh Titanium White and Liquid White. Sigh your painting with a script Liner Brush and a color of your choice.
